Focus on artificial intelligence

The CEWE Group's annual Innovation Days took place on 22 and 23 February. Employees from all over Europe came together in the Weser-Ems-Hallen in Oldenburg to examine and discuss new products and software developments. Innovation is deeply rooted in CEWE's DNA and has already carried the company through transformations in the past. It is not for nothing that CEWE speaks of 4,000 innovators working in photofinishing and commercial online printing. This year's Innovation Days focussed on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI). Physicist and science journalist Ranga Yogeshwar was a guest speaker.

Exchanging ideas and making contacts
Around 1,100 CEWE Group employees from all over Europe took part in the two days. Employees from CEWE locations as well as from subsidiaries such as Cheerz, Pixum, DeinDesign and Saxoprint presented around 180 new product and software ideas at 39 stands. All colleagues - regardless of their position and area of activity - were able to exchange ideas and provide feedback on site. In this way, CEWE's innovation process culminates every year. The Innovation Days also contribute to cross-location and cross-country dialogue. In addition to a large evening event on Thursday, the Oldenburg site offered guided tours of the company for colleagues from outside. One of the highlights on Friday was the keynote speech by Ranga Yogeshwar, who gave the interested audience some ideas on the topic of AI and answered numerous questions in a subsequent discussion round. It became clear once again that AI has the potential to drive the next transformation.

Getting the best out of AI
Ranga Yogeshwar emphasised that we are currently undergoing a major upheaval. Machines are already being integrated into everyday human life. ‘In terms of photography, this means that more and more images are being generated artificially,’ said the science journalist. ‘The illusory reality of AI will characterise the reality of our lives. Although photos are also an interpretation of reality, it will be more difficult for us to distinguish between artificial and authentic images in the future.’ This makes it all the more important for CEWE to proactively support current developments and integrate them into its corporate strategy. ‘Innovations at CEWE have always been co-designed by all employees. This also applies to the topics that concern us in the field of artificial intelligence,’ emphasised CEO Yvonne Rostock. ‘For example, all colleagues have easy access to AI via CEWE GPT. At the same time, expert teams such as our Mobile & Artificial Intelligence Campus - MAIC for short - are working on the development of new technologies. We are already using AI today - for example, to improve the quality of photos that were previously sent via WhatsApp.’ She added: ‘AI offers us promising potential along our entire value chain and for the various stakeholders. Our aim is to use it responsibly. If we integrate AI correctly, we can use it as a partner that assists us and relieves us of routine tasks - for consumers as co-creators, for employees as co-workers and for us as a company as co-pilots.’
